City Announces Road Closures for 2025 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend
PHILADELPHIA — The City of Philadelphia today released information about upcoming road closures associated with the Philadelphia Marathon Race Weekend. Streets will be closed in many parts of the city from Friday, November 21, to Sunday, November 23. Traffic delays can be expected. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, avoid areas along the racecourse, allow for extra travel time, and proceed with caution during the race weekend.
Due to enhanced security around the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, parking and traffic regulations will be strictly enforced. Street closures will be implemented on a rolling basis and lifted as runners go by, and roads are serviced. City officials urge motorists to refrain from double parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow, and is illegal.
Roadways and areas that will be impacted include:
- The Benjamin Franklin Parkway will be closed from Friday, November 21, through Sunday, November 23.
- The I-676 off-ramp at 22nd Street (westbound) will be closed on Saturday, November 22, and Sunday, November 23, at 4:00 a.m. for event security preparation. Ramps at 15th and Broad Streets may also close if needed.
- Eastbound I-76 @ Spring Garden Street (top of the ramp) at 4:00 a.m. No traffic will be permitted into Center Cty; traffic for the Art Museum & the Art Museum garage is allowed on Saturday, November 22, and Sunday, November 23.
- Eastbound Winter Street @ 23rd Street (just off of eastbound I-676) at 2:00 a.m. will be closed.
- Westbound I-76 @ Girard Avenue (Exit #342) will be closed beginning at 6:00 a.m.
- Citywide along the 13.1-mile Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon route on Saturday, November 22. The full route can be viewed online.
- Citywide along the 26.2-mile route of the AACR Philadelphia Marathon on Sunday, November 23. The full route can be viewed online.

About the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend
The Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, now in its 32nd year, has grown tremendously since the first race in 1994. What started as a small local event of just 1,500 participants has become one of the top 10 marathons in the country.
The course guides participants through a unique experience of centuries of history and architecture, diverse and lively neighborhoods, and remarkable views throughout Fairmount Park and along the Schuylkill River. Each year, spectators line the course, eager to cheer on athletes, because there’s nothing Philadelphians love more than champions.
Race Weekend 2025 has an anticipated attendance of 37,000 participants and features the AACR Philadelphia Marathon and the Nemours Children’s Health Philadelphia Kid’s Run on Sunday, November 23; the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K on Saturday, November 22; and a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 21 and Saturday, November 22.
