Note from race organizers: The Philadelphia Marathon founding goal has always been the promotion of health and fitness amongst both the local Philadelphia community and our national and international participants.
To stay true to these goals given the current public health challenges, we will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for in-person participation in all 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend events. We are also enhancing safety protocols and reducing overall race capacities. We believe these changes will increase safety and protection for our devoted athletes.
We are offering existing registered runners the option to defer to 2022 or 2023, transfer to a virtual race or to receive a partial refund. Further details will be provided as soon as possible.
The AACR Philadelphia Marathon, Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon, the Rothman Orthopaedics 8K, and the Liberty/Freedom/Patriot and Independence Challenges will be offering a virtual option for those who wish to participate from a location of your choice. Virtual runners will have the month of November to complete their run. For additional marathon weekend details, go to our FAQ section.
If you register to run an in-person event, you may choose to transfer into a virtual race up until registration closes. Refunds will not be provided to those who go from an in-person race to virtual race. If you register for a virtual race, you will be given the option to transfer to an in-person event at the current registration price using your RunSignUp profile, if space is still available.
A virtual option is available for those who wish to participate from a location of their choice and will have the month of November to complete their run. Virtual participants are not eligible for age group awards or cash prizes, but will receive a long sleeve technical shirt, a finisher certificate (digital) and a finisher medal.
Note that the 2021 the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon in-person event will begin 30 minutes earlier than normal (7:00 a.m.)
