Streets will be closed in many parts of the City during the weekend of Friday, November 22, through Sunday, November 24, 2024. Traffic delays can be expected. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, avoid areas along the racecourse, allow for extra driving time, and proceed with caution during race weekend.

The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Marathon Weekend race officials have an all-star lineup of title partners and events ahead of the 31st running of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Philadelphia Marathon.
Race Weekend 2024 features the AACR Philadelphia Marathon and Nemours Children’s Run on Sunday, November 24; the Dietz & Watson Philadelphia Half Marathon and Rothman Orthopaedics 8K on Saturday, November 23; and a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23. In addition to the races, open to the public will be a Children’s Zone, offering family-friendly activities including a rock-climbing wall, bounce zone, obstacle course, face painting, and more.

The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Marathon Weekend organizers are excited to announce that registration for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Philadelphia Marathon, Dietz & Watson Half Marathon, and Rothman Orthopaedics 8K have officially sold out for this year's race weekend happening November 22-24, 2024; registration is now closed. This is the earliest that all races have filled to capacity in the 31 years that the marathon has been taking place, and nearly two months earlier than last year’s sell-out date.
(August 22, 2024) Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Adds Equal Prize Money Across Three Gender Categories in Open Division
The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Marathon Weekend organizers are excited to announce that for the 2024 Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 8K races there will now be prize money and awards for the top finishers in the Open Division across three gender categories (Men’s, Women’s and Nonbinary). This will be the first year that non-professional athletes can compete to win prize money as top finishers. In the past, the first Philadelphian and first Masters (runners over 40 years of age) received prize money; this change expands opportunities for local and non-professional athletes to receive cash awards.

The Philadelphia City Fund is pleased to announce the opening of its 2024 Community Fund grant cycle, which this year will focus on small nonprofit organizations that provide out-of-school time (OST) programs for Philadelphia youth. An annual grant opportunity, the Community Fund grants seek to support activities that address Philadelphia’s greatest areas of need, and align with the City’s goals to improve the quality of life for all Philadelphians.

(November 21, 2023) – Philadelphia Marathon Weekend Donates Close to $200,000 in Clothing to the Salvation Army
After a record-breaking Philadelphia Marathon Weekend, race officials donated close to $200,000 in clothing to the Salvation Army on Tuesday, November 21. Once the final corral of athletes takes off, race staff and volunteers begin their sweep of the streets, collecting the discarded outerwear from the athletes. Hundreds of bags of discarded sweatshirts, jackets, sweaters, hats, and other mixed clothing articles were collected for donation.

Philadelphia, PA – The City of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Marathon Weekend race officials are proud to announce Nemours Children’s Health as the title partner for the 2023 Nemours Children’s Run.
The Nemours Children’s Run features short-distance, and non-competitive events for youngsters five years to 12 years of age. Each age group will enjoy dashes, half-mile or full-mile distances on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway on Saturday, November 18. In addition to the races, there will be family fun with a rock-climbing wall, bounce zone, obstacle course, face painting, and more!

The efforts focus on increasing access, opportunity, and representation for underrepresented LGBTQIA+ athletes. These efforts include official race merchandise displayed in a gender-neutral way by style, and equal prize money for elite competitors in accordance with the policies of the national governing body, USA Track and Field (USATF).

Philadelphia, PA –It’s a little-known fact that a portion of the entrance fees for the Philadelphia Marathon Weekend directly benefit community-based organizations seeking to address Philadelphia’s greatest needs. Roughly $250,000 generated annually by the popular race is allocated to the Philadelphia City Fund (PCF) to support its Community Fund grants, which are awarded to Philadelphia organizations that further some of city’s most critical charitable goals. PCF is pleased to announce thirteen 2023 Community Fund Grantees whose work is focused on improving health equity—this year’s theme—for all Philadelphians.

(October 11, 2021) City and Event Organizers Announce Updated COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend
PHILADELPHIA, PA - With the 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend scheduled to return to the streets of Philadelphia on Saturday, November 20 and Sunday, November 21, the City and event organizers announced that, in accordance with guidance provided by the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, all in-person runners at all 2021 Philadelphia Marathon Weekend events will be required to provide proof of a complete COVID-19 vaccination series prior to race weekend. Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR or rapid antigen test will not be considered acceptable documentation for participation. As a result of this vaccination requirement, the Dunkin’ Munchkin Run (Kid’s Run) has been cancelled for 2021.
