Philadelphia Marathon Wants You!

Annual race is seeking a few good volunteers

On your mark. Get set. Volunteer!.... The Philadelphia Marathon, which takes runners through historic and scenic areas of Philadelphia on Sunday, November 22, is seeking volunteers in several capacities for the annual race. The Marathon is scheduled to begin at 7:00 a.m.

Be part of the Philadelphia Marathon experience, a high-profile world-class event. You will be among some 2,000 volunteers on hand to support the race. You’ll meet and help more than 18,000 runners and some 40,000 spectators who come from every state in the nation and more than 30 countries.

There is a role for everyone! Sign up with friends, family, co-workers, schools and churches. You can work together and have fun while supporting this wonderful event.

Volunteering provides an opportunity to assist the community, meet other people and enjoy a day of race-watching in many historic Philadelphia neighborhoods. The Philadelphia Marathon route will take runners past landmark sites such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, City Hall, Chinatown, Independence Hall and Boathouse Row.

Race-day activities could include a role as a course marshal or course monitor or as a support person at the start, finish, or other parts of the course, which covers 26.2 miles.

Course marshals will give directions to runners and spectators, advising and responding to their needs along the way. Volunteers to assist at hydration stations also are needed. Hydration stations are established to provide fluids to keep participants hydrated while running a challenging marathon.

Hydration station workers fill, distribute and clean up refreshment cups at each station along the route. Volunteers also are needed to set up and distribute medals, blankets and post-race refreshments. If you have a great personality, a strong work ethic and an interest in having fun, this opportunity is for you. Plus, all volunteers will receive a free sporty Philadelphia Marathon sweatshirt.

Volunteers are needed for the beginning of Philadelphia Marathon weekend, Friday, November 20, and Saturday, November 21, at the Philadelphia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo for shifts, or parts of shifts.
