Marathon and Half Marathon race-day activities on Sunday, November 17 include roles such as a course marshal, course monitor, or as a support person at the start, finish, or along the 26.2 mile course. Course marshals will give directions to runners and spectators, advising and responding to their needs along the way. Volunteers are also needed at hydration stations to keep marathoners from getting dehydrated on their run. Hydration station workers fill, distribute and clean up refreshment cups at each station along the route. Volunteers are also needed to set up and distribute medals, blankets and post-race refreshments.
The Philadelphia Marathon is also partnering with the Mayor's Office of Sustainability, and the Mayor's Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service to create a team of Waste Watchers-volunteers who help educate race attendees about recycling and compost while helping the Marathon reach an ambitious goal of 85% waste diversion from landfills. At the race Start/Finish, water stops, and spectator areas, Waste Watcher volunteers will help event-goers sort their trash, recycling, and compost into the right containers.Click Here to register (note: look for the listings with "Waste Watcher" in the label).
